The Art for Sustainable Living project, supported by the British Council’s Creative Collaborations Grant Programme, brings together SUSAKO and C4CCI to explore sustainability through art. This unique collaboration is curated and conceptualized by Dr. Ayla Torun, an academic, curator, and filmmaker, who is also the founder of C4CCI.
Over a 6-month residency, five digital artists will create works inspired by sustainability, alongside other art pieces made from upcycled materials. These will be exhibited in Turkey and the UK, celebrating the synergy between digital art and sustainable practices.
SUSAKO & C4CCI: Empowering Creativity
SUSAKO, a women’s cooperative in Izmit, is partnering with C4CCI, the UK-based partner, to ensure a seamless blend of art and ecological awareness. SUSAKO supports local women through creative, eco-conscious projects, while C4CCI provides international expertise and connections in the creative industries. Together, they offer artists a platform for exploration, with workshops on upcycling industrial waste into meaningful artworks, advancing circular economy principles.
Global Collaboration, Local Impact
This project will showcase the power of cross-cultural collaboration, with exhibitions held both in Turkey and the UK, featuring digital and physical artworks. The dual exhibition will highlight the artistic transformation of waste into sustainable art forms, positioning Izmit as a hub for creative innovation and sustainability.
Beyond the residency, the project aims to inspire future initiatives like the potential launch of an Izmit Biennial, helping the city evolve into a cultural and environmental leader.
